i have no idea where any magical abandoned places are in the area, but i'm itchin' to get a small group together to explore some hidden places. i've been a fan of weird nj for years and have explored things on the east coast, but i've just moved here and haven't had a chance to see much of anything. post here if you're up for adventures!

Re: bay area: let's go on an urban spellunking adventure
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 1:27 PMWell, I'm in, but at this point I'm 0-for-2 on meetings to get adventurers together that nobody (myself included, I admit) ever followed up on. Be prepared to be a mover and shaker and to have to needle people repeatedly to make anything actually happen. -

Re: bay area: let's go on an urban spellunking adventure
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 4:56 PMToo much chance it's a cop sting if you don't actually know the person IRL first'd be my guess. -

Re: bay area: let's go on an urban spellunking adventure
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 10:14 PMCop sting? Unless things have gotten REALLY bad in the States I doubt it. Meet on neutral ground, size each other up for a bit, then go. Christ - it isn't hard. -

Re: bay area: let's go on an urban spellunking adventure
Fri, February 29, 2008 - 4:27 PMc'mon timbo - cop sting? don't you think the cops have better things to worry about than a few kids wandering around abandoned buildings? i mean, yes, it's trespassing and maybe a little dangerous and there are liability issues, but i really think urban explorers are low on the cops' list of Big Issues. maybe not on that list at all, until a rent-a-cop calls them.
that said, i don't know if i'd want to go urban exploring with a complete stranger for a number other reasons. i suggest the person who wants to do this organize a meeting at a cafe first so individuals can get to know one another and decide if they want to explore together. -

Re: bay area: let's go on an urban spellunking adventure
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 7:59 PMYou're probably right. Still, the police do monitor social networks...so, well, if they have a persona here then maybe they'll just join lots of forums where possible criminal activity may occur and sting whomever they can. I have to admit that it certainly would be a waste of an undercover alt to sting folks in this tribe...on the other hand, how annoying are Internet cop stings likely to get? Just sayin'...

Re: bay area: let's go on an urban spellunking adventure
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 12:05 AMi can see how this could easily fall apart, but if anyone wants to organize anything, i'll be sure to show up. i'm not much for leading these types of things... mostly because i ain't no bay aryan and have no clue about the secret abandoned lairs of this fine land. -

Re: bay area: let's go on an urban spellunking adventure
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 7:10 AMI'm going to the Anon protest against scientology that day, so I can't go exploring and risk being followed. But I'm going to at least show up. -

Re: bay area: let's go on an urban spellunking adventure
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 9:32 PMWhy not lure a bunch of Scientologists into a tunnel and use a vector distruption beam to suck the thetans out of them? -

Re: bay area: let's go on an urban spellunking adventure
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 10:52 PMBecause that would only be a temporary fix. They would just create new ones. -

Re: bay area: let's go on an urban spellunking adventure
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 10:21 PMThrow them into a volcano? Wait. Tried that one already, that's how we got into this mess in the first place. How silly of me. -

Re: bay area: let's go on an urban spellunking adventure
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 8:18 PMNo, actually the just stood them up on a volcano and nuked them; no one has tried applying an actual lava cauldron to them.
